Crispy Baked Tofu
Crispy tofu is a favorite when we order from Chinese restaurants. I finally decided to figure out how to make this at home. It's surprisingly easy. Try these crispy cubes over your favorite curry or stir fry recipe. If you want an alternative to pressing the tofu, some people swear by freezing the tofu overnight and then thawing it to get the water out.
Crispy Baked Tofu
Recipe from Two Spoons
Serves 4
16 oz extra firm tofu
2 Tblsp peanut oil or coconut oil
2 Tblsp cornstarch
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp pepper
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Drain tofu and wrap in a tea towel. Set on a plate and press with a heavy pan for 10 minutes. Unwrap and cut into 1/2" cubes.
In a medium sized mixing bowl combine oil, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder and pepper and mix well. Add the tofu cubes and stir gently to coat. Line a sheet pan with parchment and spread the cubes out in a single layer. Separate the cubes so that none are touching. Bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden and crisp.
