Slow Cooker Chai

This is a great recipe for holiday parties!  My son likes to set up the slow cooker the night before to make the spiced mixture (pictured below).  He steeps the tea and adds the milk right before the guests show up. Be prepared to hand out copies of the recipe.

Slow Cooker Chai
From Allrecipes.com
Makes 3 1/2 quarts

3 1/2 qts water
20-30 slices fresh ginger, peeled
20-30 green cardamom pods, crushed
35-45 whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
5 whole black peppercorns
Cinnamon
Ground ginger
8 black tea bags
1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk

Pour water into the crock of a slow cooker.  Add ginger, caradamom, cloves, cinnamon and peppercorns.  Turn on high and simmer for 8 hours or on low overnight.

Strain the hot spiced water and add the tea bags. Steep for 5 minutes and then remove. Add powdered cinnamon and ginger to taste (I usually add a few teaspoons of each, but it depends on how spicy you like your chai). Stir in the sweetened condensed milk.  Adjust the setting on the slow cooker to warm.  Serve hot.
